One thing that is really important to remember when the chips are down, you are feeling over-whelmed,

Success in Goals = Short Term Action x Long Term Planning

5 steps to your Success:-

  1. Think then act; sometimes spontaneity can be a good thing
  2. Take Inspired action only
  3. When in doubt, wait
  4. Take strong action based on faith & purpose
  5. Make it easier by having the right attitude

A while back, after leaving my office and arriving home, I watched a (true) movie: an innocent victim (a bit like the “Baby Killer”) where a falsely accused man of rape & triple homicide/murder was being prosecuted by the State of North Carolina. At the first trial he was sentenced based on ‘weak’ eye-witness account. In the re-trial - after being sentenced to death row - he won and was freed.

What particularly impressed me was the courage, loyalty, tenacity & determination of (a) the defendant’s father (he was his adopted son!) & (b) the defendant’s attorneys.

They worked very hard together to pull things towards a positive outcome - gaining strength, clarity, and self-belief as they progressed forwards.

There was a point when the defendant was coached by his attorneys in controlling his anger/frustration & responding well when sitting in the witness box.

Morals of the story: Human qualities such as kindness can be vast & unmeasurable & this can be awesome in winning people and circumstances. Also:-

  • Never give-up, as truth prevails;
  • Surround yourself with the best quality of people and strategies;
  • Focus on long-term success.

Your success ultimately comes down to how you operate your mind and body. Once you get used to operating your mind in this way by altering your rules and the way in which you view the world, you will gain extra inner power to over-ride danger and ride your way to new heights. Once your mind has been expanded it cannot come back to its original size: unless you force it or allow it to.

Decide now how you which to shape your future by working with the God-given faculties and capacities inherent in you.

Here is something that I wanted to share with you; so sit back, watch, read, listen and enjoy.

Remember, if you are in a state of denial, look around at the physical wonders around you - WHO created them and for what? Look into yourself and see what you are really made of. Don’t deny arrogantly nor confuse matters of Faith with those of dogma. Open your eyes and be frank with the Truth, perchance you may really see the beauty around and within you. Thereafter turn to Him, who created all, and thank Him for it all….For if you get this part right, all else will follow and things will fall into place. I know this, let me tell you why further below:

Earth, Flawless Sky, Rain, Water, Gardens, Grain, Produce of all kinds, Land, Life…
Then why deny: look at the end of those who came before you: destroyed for their iniquities: remnants of a time gone by…confused of their Creation.

Long before when i was much younger, I used to think of things related to existence, world, universe and so on whilst others were thinking/talking of matters more closer to them: what people said, think, wore, went, watched etcetera. So they used to think I must be of my rocker - well not exactly, just perhaps that I was a little aloof. Well, recently I went through a period of thinking how others think on a regular basis. I didn’t intend it to do so, it just happened that way. Probably because it was meant to be so that i may learn what it means to see the world through such lenses. Anyway, I can tell you that I didn’t like it. I can understand, and relate to it as necessary, but it often ends up with me getting into some kind of argument. So, I realise that its not ‘my cup of tea’ and that I’m suited to sticking to matters of higher concern and priority.

See people will live according to their levels of thinking. This truly is the defining factor, not what you wear/live/drive/work/associate with, although these aspects can help from time-to-time. No, what really matters is attitude and level of thinking. If that is in order, then all else gets sorted along the way.

So, as Einstein said, “Problems cannot be solved by the same level of thinking that created them.” So, when humanity is in crisis, as it is, do you think the type of leadership that currently exists can resolve it? What’s happening in Palestine/Israel? Is it a matter of “Leadership” in the ordinary sense, or do you think it requires Leadership of a pristine level: as like with the types of Saladin (Salahuddin)?

So my friend, one can talk of ‘leadership’ ’till the cows come home’ but the foundation of pure leadership is in bringing into perspective. and integrating, proper beliefs and values.

Life Really is Non-Linear…

Most times we think that everything in life simply has to follow a particular order of progression, development and as a natural consequence, an upward and onward ascent. Well what happens when this is not the case? Are you put off by the lack of results or do you stick to your plan? Do you even have a plan in the first instance? Let me tell you that sometimes, for some people in some places, things can go so tremendously well that you think that astronomic results have materialised out of thin air. I mean exponential growth occurs almost in the figurative ‘blink of an eye’: look at Trump, Branson, Gates, Slim, Mittel et al. They may not have necessarily had it all to begin with, yet within in the span of a few decades they have amassed a net-worth eclipsing many lives over.

So many self-help books will cite their triumphs in attempt to make you feel inadequately small and raise your inquisitiveness until you ask yourself “why don’t I do what they do in order to reap the same type of rewards as they?” I know that the natural tendency of humans is to see what others are doing and if it resonates with oneself then a pursuit to mimick, or ‘model’, them is taken on. Now 1 of 3 things can happen:-

  1. You achieve it (not likely)
  2. You give up (likely)
  3. You adapt

We can talk all day about qualities such as Perseverance, Faith, Sense of Certainty, Resilience, Resourcefulness, and the like, which are key to the success of most endeavours, but one crucial oversight not referred to so much is the aspect of Divine Intervention.

Too many people agonise over the triumphs of others and forget the many small favours in their own lives. The seemingly more successful ones will tease you to have what they have and belittle you for not being like them. The levels, or leagues, of competition and achievement may differ as time progresses but the sentiments often remain the same. So then what happens? One builds feelings of resentment, jealousy, stiffness and rigidity towards greed that only fuels the drive towards mimicking those role-models even more.

Now I’m not saying that modeling is a bad idea per se, I’m saying its a disease when one loses their bearings of reality. When it gets to a point where a person cannot see anything else but the what others have achieved then alarm bells should ring because that is not a healthy state of being to function in.

Try to remember the following:

Its not in the arriving, its in the journeying

You will deepen your sense of self-satisfaction if you let-go of delusional ideas and focus on the little things that are more readily accessible, do-able and manageable. When you do this, things will gradually unfold before you in  a way that is right for you, at that particular time in your life. So, some of the other key ingredients towards leading a prosperous and fulfilling life is to ensure that you are flexible in both thought and action. Do what is necessary to make the ascent natural, for rewards are around you already, if you were keen to notice them…The Hand of the Divine is operating at all times to keep you safe, grant you the faculties of mind, intelligence sight and hearing, given you loving relationships, and most importantly given you time and health to continue. The blessings really are in the doing and you don’t want to mess-up your chances by chasing a negative dream.

Relax, focus and work in a step-wise fashion on your pet-project/s and let the flexibility open the door to creativity and ingenuity. Many successful people have probably done the same anyway: amonst other things they may have also mastered the art of patience as this entails flexibility. Be patient and realise that the ultimate success factor is Divine Intervention, for He determines when, how, where and how much:

Man proposes and God disposes.

And by the way, those others who you look-up to may also have done things which may be less than desirable: cheat, lie, steal, fraud, etc. so why not look at your own beauty and see the magic that is within. To have a patience is great treasure and it needs to be exercised in every department of life: career, business, relationships, finances, health, overall living conditions, and even against those who have wronged you. Letting it go and letting the matter rest with the ALMIGHTY above is the surest way of bringing relief to your heart and mind. Acting with patience is to act in the reflection of the Merciful One, to act in haste, or anger, is to act in the reflection of the accursed one. We want to win on all fronts, so why not be savvy and work the inner world in a way that is authentic, balanced and to higher purpose? This is self-leadership as stated in the last testament:

“And for those who fear God, He will make their path easy” (65:4)

So dear reader you don’t have to give-up, you don’t have to agonise over those you are attempting to model, you don’t have to feel inadequate at any stage as long as you keep to you true self, work hard, hold onto the rope of the Divine and thank Him for your blessings as you go along, because now you understand that Life really is non-linear.

The Divine Codes for a Safe, Prosperous & a Happy Life

Most often people cannot see beyond the limited scopes of their own intelligence. The filters on their perceptions and the processing mechanisms of their minds are dulled due to montonous repetitions of life in which attempts are made to live life without understanding and to ‘progress’ without meaning. Repititious small acts of work, play, social interaction and the pursuits of creature comforts lead to a type of thinking where everything is hunky-dory and there is little to worry about. Until, of a sudden, something happens to make a person stop, think and reflect on the every-day wonders surrounding us that serve as pointers to the higher truths.

Recently, I was up on Moses Mountain, St. Catherine, Sinai, Egypt recently and the views were breathtaking, especially after ascending all night to reach the summit (2639m) and offering my pre-dawn prayers in the place of worship built at the peak (there is a church and a mosque). It is the place where the Prophet Moses received the Ten Commandments from God and nearby is also the ‘burning bush’ from where God spoke to Moses.

The fact remains that such a place was specified for a very important moment in the history of mankind: the revelation of the Ten Commandments.

According to the Biblical records, God gave the Ten Commandments to Moses on Mount Sinai, inscribed on stone tablets, and intended for the guidance of the people of Israel after their exodus from Egypt. They form a small but vital part of the total 623 laws in the Torah (five books of Moses, the first books of the Hebrew Bible, known to Christians as the Old Testament).

There are three versions of the Ten Commandments in the Old Testament they are Exodus 20:2-17, Exodus 34:12-26 and Deuteronomy 5:6-21. Exodus 20 is the most commonly used set.

In the King James’ version of the Bible, Exodus 20 reads as follows:

20:1 And God spoke all these words, saying, 20.2 I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

20.3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

20.4 Thou shalt have not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: 20.5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and the fourth generation of them that hate me; 20.6 And showing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.

20.7 Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

20.8 Remember the Sabbath day, keep it holy.

20.9 Six days shalt thou labor, and do all thy work: 20.10 But the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: 20.10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: 20.11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested  the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

20.12 Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.

20.13 Thou shalt not kill

20.14 Thou shalt not commit adultery

20.15 Thou shalt not steal

20.16 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.

20.17 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s house, that shalt not covet thy neighbour’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour’s.

Different religious groups have divided the commandments in different ways. Most Protestants and Orthodox Christians divide and enumerate them as follows:

1. The prologue and prohibition of the worship of any deity but God
2. Prohibition of idolatry
3. Prohibition of the use of the name of God for vain purposes
4. Observance of the Sabbath
5. Honoring of one’s father and mother
6. Prohibition of murder
7. Prohibition of adultery
8. Prohibition of stealing
9. Prohibition of giving false testimony
10. Prohibition of coveting the property or wife of one’s neighbor.

Roman Catholics and Lutherans combine the prologue and the first two prohibitions and divide the last one into two that prohibit separately the coveting of a neighbour’s wife and of his property.  In Jewish tradition, the prologue is considered the first commandment, the first two prohibitions are combined as the second commandment, and the rest follow the same as the Protestant and Orthodox traditions.

Although many verses in the Quran confirmed the Biblical Ten Commandments, many Quranic commentators have referred to the following three verses from Surah Al-Ana’m (The Cattle, 6:151-153) as “The Ten Commandments”. Aspects of Quranic moral values depicted therein:

The 1st commandment:

“Do not take partner with Allah or any thing equal to Him”

The 2nd commandment:

“Be benevolent to your parents”

The 3rd  commandment:

“Do not kill your children for fear of poverty. We who shall provide substance for you as well as for them”

The 4th commandment:

“Do not even come near any shameful deeds, whether committed openly or secretly”

The 5th commandment:

“Do not kill any human soul whom Allah has forbidden except for a just cause

The 6th commandment:

“Do not even come near (touch) the orphan’s property, except to improve it, until he or she attains the age of full strength”

The 7th commandment:

“Give full measure & weigh with equity. We do not burden any human’s soul beyond its capability”

The 8th commandment:

“Whenever you speak, speak justly even (if the matter) it concerns (against) a near relative (one near of kin)”

The 9th commandment:

“Always fulfill your covenant with Allah”

The 10th commandment:

“This is my way (the straight path), then follow it and do not follow other paths. They will scatter you from this (straight) path”

The Quran refers to the Biblical laws revealed to Prophet Moses (PBUH) on Mount Sinai as follows:

“And we wrote for him (Moses) in the tablets (of the law) all manner of admonition, clearly spelling out everything. And (We said:) hold fast unto them with (all your) firmness and command your people to hold fast to their most goodly rules…” (Surah Al-A’raf 7: 145).

The above verses have been referred to as “The Ten Commandments” because every one of the three verses ended up with Allah (SWT) saying:

“Thus does God command you that you may attain wisdom” (151);

“Thus does God command you that you may remember” (152); and

“Thus does God command you, that you may remain conscious of Him” (153).

The Test of Time & What You Do

What is time? The question has baffled many a thinker throughout the ages and continues to serve as one of the greatest mysteries. You realise that time ‘flies’ when you’re having fun, or when immersed in a series of long thoughts that has taken you into dream mode. Conversely, when you are waiting for something to happen and keen to see an outcome it seems like its taking forever!

Yet time, and its measurement, remains the same. The only difference is the state of mind that you have whilst experiencing its relativity. Now lets say that there is something that you have to do, its important and much depends on it. But you don’t feel like doing it, before long all the symptoms of procrastination set-in and the whole idea of that important task feels more like a chore, a burden. And if you actually get round to making a start, you tend to be sluggish, out of sync and phased by the whole process.

Consider the alternative: you are feeling fresh, responsive and ready to tackle any challenge coming your way, which may not only be critical, but difficult. And now you are not put off by the size of the job but welcome the opportunity to pour out your creativity and perform at greater levels. In doing so, you do not necessarily realise the amount of time consumed when working on it, which may be much more than what your originally envisaged!

So, enjoying what you do is more important than the act of the doing alone. This enjoyment comes from the inside, from your natural state, which is why you should choose, whenever you can, to work on those things in work and life that suit your inherent interests and abilities.

The test of time is to pick-out the most interesting and rewarding from the trivial, mundane and the un-captivating. Once this is done, you can ‘fly’ through time more often rather than twist and fret on the spot.

The Space-Time Factor

@ 3:00 = We don’t all experience the same time
@ 8:52 = It depends on what your doing!

Now, If the Sun is able to warp the space-time factor, and it being only one of the many suns in this lower universe, then you shall deduce that other bigger suns and entities will ‘affect’ time in similarly extraordinary ways. And in the proximity of God, the Ultimate Power, Absolute Force and The Infinite Source of Energy, who sits on His vast throne above the seven heavens, time definitely is not as we perceive it here on earth. Recapping on an earlier Chapter (The Ways of Ascent, 70):

70:4 The angels and the Spirit ascend unto Him in a Day the measure whereof is (as) fifty thousand years:

70:5 Therefore, do hold patience, a patience of beautiful (contentment).

70:6 They see the (Day) indeed as a far-off (event):

70:7 But we see it (quite) near.

So ultimately, in the grandest scheme of things, life and the universe, the only aspects that really matter are the deeds that we send forwards which we all will be accounted for on the Great Day of Reckoning. If we utilise our God-given talents and strengths for the benefit of others, within the guidelines provided for us by our Creator, then we will not only find success but contentment also. This is the test of time, particularly when our ‘goals’ are not reached and the outcome we desire is not in sight, then the magnificence of patience must be exercised and witnessed.

And remember, no-one really manages time, you can only manage the activities that you do through choice and self-discipline.

There is much more that can be stated on this topic including the eastern view of kairos versus the more western chronos interpretation of time. However, if one day can equal 50,000 of our human years, be sure that there is a massive unfathomable world out there waiting to receive us in our onwards journey.

What of Character…?

..This inequality of the reputation to the works or the anecdotes, is not accounted for by saying that the reverberation is longer than the thunder-clap; but somewhat resided in these men which begot an expectation that outran all their performance. The largest part of their power was latent. This is that which we call Character, — a reserved force which acts directly by presence, and without means. It is conceived of as a certain undemonstrable force, a Familiar or Genius, by whose impulses the man is guided, but whose counsels he cannot impart; which is company for him, so that such men are often solitary, or if they chance to be social, do not need society, but can entertain themselves very well alone. The purest literary talent appears at one time great, at another time small, but character is of a stellar and undiminishable greatness. What others effect by talent or by eloquence, this man accomplishes by some magnetism. “Half his strength he put not forth.” His victories are by demonstration of superiority, and not by crossing of bayonets. He conquers, because his arrival alters the face of affairs….

..Man, ordinarily a pendant to events, only half attached, and that awkwardly, to the world he lives in, in these examples appears to share the life of things, and to be an expression of the same laws which control the tides and the sun, numbers and quantities.

..But to use a more modest illustration, and nearer home, I observe, that in our political elections, where this element, if it appears at all, can only occur in its coarsest form, we sufficiently understand its incomparable rate. The people know that they need in their representative much more than talent, namely, the power to make his talent trusted. The men who carry their points do not need to inquire of their constituents what they should say, but are themselves the country which they represent: nowhere are its emotions or opinions so instant and true as in them; nowhere so pure from a selfish infusion. The constituency at home hearkens to their words, watches the color of their cheek, and therein, as in a glass, dresses its own. Our public assemblies are pretty good tests of manly force. Our frank countrymen of the west and south have a taste for character, and like to know whether the New Englander is a substantial man, or whether the hand can pass through him.

The same motive force appears in trade. There are geniuses in trade, as well as in war, or the state, or letters; and the reason why this or that man is fortunate, is not to be told. It lies in the man: that is all anybody can tell you about it. See him, and you will know as easily why he succeeds, as, if you see Napoleon, you would comprehend his fortune. In the new objects we recognize the old game, the habit of fronting the fact, and not dealing with it at second hand, through the perceptions of somebody else. Nature seems to authorize trade, as soon as you see the natural merchant, who appears not so much a private agent, as her factor and Minister of Commerce. His natural probity combines with his insight into the fabric of society, to put him above tricks, and he communicates to all his own faith, that contracts are of no private interpretation. The habit of his mind is a reference to standards of natural equity and public advantage; and he inspires respect, and the wish to deal with him, both for the quiet spirit of honor which attends him, and for the intellectual pastime which the spectacle of so much ability affords. This immensely stretched trade, which makes the capes of the Southern Ocean his wharves, and the Atlantic Sea his familiar port, centres in his brain only; and nobody in the universe can make his place good. In his parlor, I see very well that he has been at hard work this morning, with that knitted brow, and that settled humor, which all his desire to be courteous cannot shake off. I see plainly how many firm acts have been done; how many valiant noes have this day been spoken, when others would have uttered ruinous yeas. I see, with the pride of art, and skill of masterly arithmetic and power of remote combination, the consciousness of being an agent and playfellow of the original laws of the world. He too believes that none can supply him, and that a man must be born to trade, or he cannot learn it.

..This is a natural power, like light and heat, and all nature cooperates with it. The reason why we feel one man’s presence, and do not feel another’s, is as simple as gravity. Truth is the summit of being: justice is the application of it to affairs. All individual natures stand in a scale, according to the purity of this element in them. The will of the pure runs down from them into other natures, as water runs down from a higher into a lower vessel. This natural force is no more to be withstood, than any other natural force. We can drive a stone upward for a moment into the air, but it is yet true that all stones will forever fall; and whatever instances can be quoted of unpunished theft, or of a lie which somebody credited, justice must prevail, and it is the privilege of truth to make itself believed. Character is this moral order seen through the medium of an individual nature. An individual is an encloser. Time and space, liberty and necessity, truth and thought, are left at large no longer. Now, the universe is a close or pound. All things exist in the man tinged with the manners of his soul. With what quality is in him, he infuses all nature that he can reach; nor does he tend to lose himself in vastness, but, at how long a curve soever, all his regards return into his own good at last. He animates all he can, and he sees only what he animates. He encloses the world, as the patriot does his country, as a material basis for his character, and a theatre for action. A healthy soul stands united with the Just and the True, as the magnet arranges itself with the pole, so that he stands to all beholders like a transparent object betwixt them and the sun, and whoso journeys towards the sun, journeys towards that person. He is thus the medium of the highest influence to all who are not on the same level. Thus, men of character are the conscience of the society to which they belong.

..The natural measure of this power is the resistance of circumstances. Impure men consider life as it is reflected in opinions, events, and persons. They cannot see the action, until it is done. Yet its moral element pre-existed in the actor, and its quality as right or wrong, it was easy to predict. Everything in nature is bipolar, or has a positive and negative pole. There is a male and a female, a spirit and a fact, a north and a south. Spirit is the positive, the event is the negative. Will is the north, action the south pole. Character may be ranked as having its natural place in the north. It shares the magnetic currents of the system. The feeble souls are drawn to the south or negative pole. They look at the profit or hurt of the action. They never behold a principle until it is lodged in a person. They do not wish to be lovely, but to be loved. The class of character like to hear of their faults: the other class do not like to hear of faults; they worship events; secure to them a fact, a connexion, a certain chain of circumstances, and they will ask no more. The hero sees that the event is ancillary: it must follow him. A given order of events has no power to secure to him the satisfaction which the imagination attaches to it; the soul of goodness escapes from any set of circumstances, whilst prosperity belongs to a certain mind, and will introduce that power and victory which is its natural fruit, into any order of events. No change of circumstances can repair a defect of character.

..The face which character wears to me is self-sufficingness. I revere the person who is riches; so that I cannot think of him as alone, or poor, or exiled, or unhappy, or a client, but as perpetual patron, benefactor, and beatified man. Character is centrality, the impossibility of being displaced or overset. A man should give us a sense of mass. Society is frivolous, and shreds its day into scraps, its conversation into ceremonies and escapes. But if I go to see an ingenious man, I shall think myself poorly entertained if he give me nimble pieces of benevolence and etiquette; rather he shall stand stoutly in his place, and let me apprehend, if it were only his resistance; know that I have encountered a new and positive quality; — great refreshment for both of us. It is much, that he does not accept the conventional opinions and practices. That nonconformity will remain a goad and remembrancer, and every inquirer will have to dispose of him, in the first place. There is nothing real or useful that is not a seat of war. Our houses ring with laughter and personal and critical gossip, but it helps little. But the uncivil, unavailable man, who is a problem and a threat to society, whom it cannot let pass in silence, but must either worship or hate, — and to whom all parties feel related, both the leaders of opinion, and the obscure and eccentric, — he helps; he puts America and Europe in the wrong, and destroys the skepticism which says, `man is a doll, let us eat and drink, ’tis the best we can do,’ by illuminating the untried and unknown. Acquiescence in the establishment, and appeal to the public, indicate infirm faith, heads which are not clear, and which must see a house built, before they can comprehend the plan of it. The wise man not only leaves out of his thought the many, but leaves out the few. Fountains, fountains, the self-moved, the absorbed, the commander because he is commanded, the assured, the primary,— they are good; for these announce the instant presence of supreme power.

..These are properties of life, and another trait is the notice of incessant growth. Men should be intelligent and earnest. They must also make us feel, that they have a controlling happy future, opening before them, which sheds a splendor on the passing hour. The hero is misconceived and misreported: he cannot therefore wait to unravel any man’s blunders: he is again on his road, adding new powers and honors to his domain, and new claims on your heart, which will bankrupt you, if you have loitered about the old things, and have not kept your relation to him, by adding to your wealth. New actions are the only apologies and explanations of old ones, which the noble can bear to offer or to receive. If your friend has displeased you, you shall not sit down to consider it, for he has already lost all memory of the passage, and has doubled his power to serve you, and, ere you can rise up again, will burden you with blessings.

Character is nature in the highest form. It is of no use to ape it, or to contend with it. Somewhat is possible of resistance, and of persistence, and of creation, to this power, which will foil all emulation.

As I have said, nature keeps these sovereignty’s in her own hands, and however pertly our sermons and disciplines would divide some share of credit, and teach that the laws fashion the citizen, she goes her own gait, and puts the wisest in the wrong. She makes very light of gospels and prophets, as one who has a great many more to produce, and no excess of time to spare on any one. There is a class of men, individuals of which appear at long intervals, so eminently endowed with insight and virtue, that they have been unanimously saluted as divine, and who seem to be an accumulation of that power we consider. Divine persons are character born, or, to borrow a phrase from Napoleon, they are victory organized. They are usually received with ill-will, because they are new, and because they set a bound to the exaggeration that has been made of the personality of the last divine person. Nature never rhymes her children, nor makes two men alike. When we see a great man, we fancy a resemblance to some historical person, and predict the sequel of his character and fortune, a result which he is sure to disappoint. None will ever solve the problem of his character according to our prejudice, but only in his own high unprecedented way. Character wants room; must not be crowded on by persons, nor be judged from glimpses got in the press of affairs or on few occasions. It needs perspective, as a great building. It may not, probably does not, form relations rapidly; and we should not require rash explanation, either on the popular ethics, or on our own, of its action.

..He is a dull observer whose experience has not taught him the reality and force of magic, as well as of chemistry. The coldest precisian cannot go abroad without encountering inexplicable influences. One man fastens an eye on him, and the graves of the memory render up their dead; the secrets that make him wretched either to keep or to betray, must be yielded; — another, and he cannot speak, and the bones of his body seem to lose their cartilages; the entrance of a friend adds grace, boldness, and eloquence to him; and there are persons, he cannot choose but remember, who gave a transcendent expansion to his thought, and kindled another life in his bosom.

What is so excellent as strict relations of amity, when they spring from this deep root? The sufficient reply to the skeptic, who doubts the power and the furniture of man, is in that possibility of joyful intercourse with persons, which makes the faith and practice of all reasonable men. I know nothing which life has to offer so satisfying as the profound good understanding, which can subsist, after much exchange of good offices, between two virtuous men, each of whom is sure of himself, and sure of his friend. It is a happiness which postpones all other gratifications, and makes politics, and commerce, and churches, cheap. For, when men shall meet as they ought, each a benefactor, a shower of stars, clothed with thoughts, with deeds, with accomplishments, it should be the festival of nature which all things announce. Of such friendship, love in the sexes is the first symbol, as all other things are symbols of love. Those relations to the best men, which, at one time, we reckoned the romances of youth, become, in the progress of the character, the most solid enjoyment.

This great defeat is hitherto our highest fact. But the mind requires a victory to the senses, a force of character which will convert judge, jury, soldier, and king; which will rule animal and mineral virtues, and blend with the courses of sap, of rivers, of winds, of stars, and of moral agents.

If we cannot attain at a bound to these grandeurs, at least, let us do them homage. In society, high advantages are set down to the possessor, as disadvantages. It requires the more wariness in our private estimates. I do not forgive in my friends the failure to know a fine character, and to entertain it with thankful hospitality. When, at last, that which we have always longed for, is arrived, and shines on us with glad rays out of that far celestial land, then to be coarse, then to be critical, and treat such a visitant with the jabber and suspicion of the streets, argues a vulgarity that seems to shut the doors of heaven. This is confusion, this the right insanity, when the soul no longer knows its own, nor where its allegiance, its religion, are due. Is there any religion but this, to know, that, wherever in the wide desert of being, the holy sentiment we cherish has opened into a flower, it blooms for me? if none sees it, I see it; I am aware, if I alone, of the greatness of the fact. Whilst it blooms, I will keep sabbath or holy time, and suspend my gloom, and my folly and jokes. Nature is indulged by the presence of this guest. There are many eyes that can detect and honor the prudent and household virtues; there are many that can discern Genius on his starry track, though the mob is incapable; but when that love which is all-suffering, all-abstaining, all-aspiring, which has vowed to itself, that it will be a wretch and also a fool in this world, sooner than soil its white hands by any compliances, comes into our streets and houses, — only the pure and aspiring can know its face, and the only compliment they can pay it, is to own it.

Between The 2 Recognised Axes: The Central Axis of Spirituality

Hi,

You know how most political divides are mainly measured across 2 major axes: the economic one and the social one. The range of issues and policies across theses two principal lines is viewed through either a lens of liberalism or conservatism. And in a very brief nut shell this creates the democratic framework around us here in the West, where you can have economic freedom with some social constraints, or social freedom with economic constraints. But you’ll be hard pressed to find both social and economic freedom / constraints bundled together.

However, there is a third central axis that in my view is more elementary and requires a careful integration into the political spectra: the Spiritual Axis. It may already be present to varying degrees as personal values, but it is not appreciated as an order, an entity and an identified need in its own right. So despite outward loyalties or disagreements on policy and law, inwardly there seems to be a disparity between personal conscience, morals and values which is reflected in the shifting tides of political debates and positions.

I’m reminded of parts of the American Declaration of Independence:

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

Ingrained into history, collective creed, constitution and general infrastructure is the idea that “all men are created equal”. Yet I cannot rid myself of the belief that ours is a fragmented, fractured and contradictory society, where the individual and communal strands are in constant tension, and the struggle between self-identification is underpinned by state legislature and practice. The basis of the existing creed stated above was, I like to believe, one of sincere determination to uphold higher values and ideals. But, tell me

  • Who creates the law?
  • Where do values come from?
  • What is Truth and how is it adhered to?

Is it possible to say that when stripping away social scripting, political bias, selfish interests and peer pressure, there resides within each of us a pure form of a human being that inclines towards higher virtues and ethics? Take a scenario: what were to happen if suddenly we were all to fall victim to a massive earthquake, would we then begin to sense that indeed we we are all created equal and that the fleeting labels, status, privileges, comforts and positions that tend to comfort us otherwise can do little in the event of such major catastrophe?

Would, and can, any advancement in technology or other modern sophistication’s help prevent or avert such a calamity? I think not, it never was possible and it never will be. We are all subject to a common end which is to meet our Creator and answer for our time spent here on Earth.

God’s message in all ages has been singular and we are better positioned when using His guidance as the criterion for measuring right from wrong, truth from falsehood, fact from conjecture. In the chapter of Jonah (10) we are informed:

But most of them follow nothing but fancy: truly fancy can be of no avail against truth. Verily God is well aware of all that they do.

This Qur’an is not such as can be produced by other than God. On the contrary it is a confirmation of (revelations) that went before it, and a fuller explanation of the Book - wherein there is no doubt - from the Lord of the worlds.

The final testament completes, confirms, clarifies and corrects all former scriptures and further elucidates the one true revelation - sent by the ONE TRUE GOD in all ages.

Whist on the topic of Declaration of Independence, values and spirituality, I just want to share with you some other aspect, as I’m pressed for time at present. I’ll cover-off some other aspects with you later, particularly in relation to Ch. 10. Here’s the other part:

The “Ten Points” appear every February 12 in newspaper ads honoring Abraham Lincoln. In fact, these aphorisms are from the pen of Reverend William John Henry Boetcker (1873-1962).

* You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.
* You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.
* You cannot help small men by tearing down big men.
* You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.
* You cannot lift the wage-earner by pulling down the wage-payer.
* You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than your income.
* You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred.
* You cannot establish sound security on borrowed money.
* You cannot build character and courage by taking away a man’s initiative and independence.
* You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they could and should do for themselves.

A. Lincoln is also claimed to have written the following to his son’s school headmaster:-

“My son will have to learn, I know, that all men are not just, all men are not true. But teach him also that for every scoundrel there is a hero; that for every selfish politician, there is a dedicated leader. Teach him that for every enemy there is a friend.
It will take time, I know; but teach him if you can, that a dollar earned is of far more value than five found.
Teach him to learn to lose and also to enjoy winning, steer him away from envy, if you can.
Teach him the secret of quiet laughter. Let him learn early that bullies are easiest to lick.
Teach him, if you can, the wonder of books…but also give him quiet time to ponder the eternal mystery of birds in the sky, bees in the sun and flowers on a green hillside.
In school, teach him it is far more honorable to fail than to cheat…
[Teach him to have faith in his own ideas, even if everyone tells him they are wrong.]
Teach him to be gentle with [gentle] people and tough with the tough.
Try to give my son the strength not to follow the crowd when everyone is getting on the bandwagon.
Teach him to listen to all men; but teach him also to filter all he hears on a screen of truth and take only the good that comes through.
Teach him, if you can, how to laugh when he is sad.
Teach him there is no shame in tears. Teach him to scoff at cynics and to be beware of too much sweetness.
Teach him to sell his brawn and brain to the highest bidders, but never to put a price on his heart and soul.
Teach him to close his ears to a howling mob…and to stand and fight if he thinks he’s right.
Treat him gently; but do not cuddle him, because only the test of fire makes fine steel.
Let him have the courage to be impatient, let him have the patience to be brave. Teach him always to have sublime faith in humankind.
This is a big order, but see what you can do. He is such a fine little fellow my son!”

Welcome to Ark2Ark! Let me begin by thanking you for taking a moment to listen to this introduction.

Hi, my name is Asad Khan - and you know throughout my academic, professional, business and community life, I have dealt with a wide variety of people who talk about a range of issues that they are confronted with: be that in their organisations, their teams, their businesses, their study or work place, social circles, community and faith groups or even their families.

And I often wonder how the people seek to resolve their issues and move forward. After 12 years of being at the forefront of many diverse projects in an array of settings, my primary interests now are:

a) To understand the coping mechanisms of people who wish to excel in their field of ambition; and
b) To identify the critical features that distinguishes the ones who really make a mark for themselves - from those who just pass through time without really paying attention to their self-worth, destiny or legacy.

As you aware, we are now living in a global economy where the exchange of ideas, news, trade, people and culture are moving at rapid speeds and more than ever before, it seems clear to me that those who are keen to make significant progress in our times are the ones who get ahead of the rest by structuring key strategies into their mental, emotional, physical, social and spiritual patterns.

I think you will agree, that we are all facing challenges at multiple levels of our everyday lives – whether that be dealing with customers & clients; patients & colleagues; relatives or spouses; friends & neighbours; public authorities or others…right through to the other side, where one needs to get clear their own career aspirations & promotion; finances & health fitness; lifestyle habits; relationships & companionship; learning & contribution; and sense of purpose.

This I think is the dilemma of our times – and we are, as the Chinese saying goes, “living in interesting times”. I mean take a look around you and you’ll see we’re making great advances in areas such as science & technology, media, transport and construction, yet at the same time so many of us seem to lack the recognition of vital factors such as higher purpose, values and judgements.

This makes me want to strive to understand not only human needs and motivation, but also the prominent features that stifle progress and harmony in all areas of our lives.

The reasons for this is as you can see: that for some their material resources far outweighs their spiritual resourcefulness, so they begin to feel a sense of urgency to get clear on what their actual aims of life are, and how they can make meaningful contributions back to others; this way they aim to feel truly fulfilled.

Yet with others, their emotional wellness seems to be far greater than their material bank, but then they may find it hard to manifest their inner yearnings into the practical world.

I’d like you to understand that at any given moment in time a person is in one of two conditions: (a) fortunate; or (b) unfortunate. From my personal experiences, it isn’t always clear as to which category one may actually be in – however they may appear to be otherwise on the outside.

Take myself for example: I had everything going for me – career wise, social status, finances, professional credibility and a track record of achievement - till life dealt me another hand – and I ended-up losing a significant portion of those advantages that I took for granted.

In retrospection, life was teaching me major lessons - far greater than I had expected – and I am actually grateful for the opportunity to have been afforded the time for serious self-reflection and the space necessary to study my own value system.

This was a chance for me to really take stock of my experiences and begin to consider more carefully the full direction of my life and the features that are most important to me – such as

•    Time – Health – Family;
•    Skills Set – Goals – Abilities;
•    Opportunity to Give Back to Others;
•    Authentic Values & Overall Purpose.

What transpired as a result was Ark2Ark – and what it really is about is helping people - at every level of society - to get their personal balance right - so not only do they get on track to achieve their ambitions – but also feel complete whilst doing so.

Now I know the challenges are great - and so they require equally great solutions, and I believe this can only happen through a dialogue – an opening if you like.

We aim to help create the environment where you are given both the time and space to open-up to the challenges and face them authentically. The greater the scope of challenge around you, the deeper the moments of reflection that are required to muster-up the strategies to help solve and overcome them.

This is where you will be engaging your whole existence – physical, mental, emotional and spiritual centres to become focussed on achieving outstanding results.

That’s why we aim to help you get full alignment of your mind, body and soul so that you feel confident and comfortable with taking vital decisions that will affect any areas of concern, and also have a lasting positive impact on your future.

Remember, it was not long ago when Nelson Mandela was sitting in his prison looking out of the small cracks in the walls of his cell - having spent 26 harsh years for wanting to bring about a change in the condition of his people. But it wasn’t just the sunlight or air he was seeking through those gaps, he was envisioning his plans for materialising the dreams that he had incubated for several decades.

He is one living example of the power a person gets when living on purpose and with passion – and it is this inner world that I wish to demonstrate to you as the most potent and meaningful – because this is the place where the greatest and most profound transformation takes place first – and be sure to know that every human soul has the gift of choice in using it for their benefit.

So allow me to ask you this:– despite what you may have achieved so far; where you have been; whom you’ve interacted with; what you have done; or what you may acquired or amassed; what you may cherish, value or believe in – tell me in all truth and sincerity – is this all there is, or do you think there is more?

I, for one, would like you to think that there is more and to not have to settle with accepting anything less.

So really, my team and I help you to uncover the fundamentals of your being through asking searching questions in an attempt to help you to discern the reality around you.

And let me also add this: it doesn’t matter to me whether you are:-

•    the janitor of the building or the CEO of the blue chip company housed within it;
•    the student attending a place of learning or the specialist delivering the material;
•    the social entrepreneur wanting to make things happen or a national politician working to bring to the people what you claimed;
•    the home maker, professional, executive or anyone else –

In fact it doesn’t matter to me whether you’re tall or small; thin or large; dark or light; single or partnered; wealthy or impoverished; male or female or whatever -

For what truly matters to me is the place you are at right now – deep inside of you – and even more, the processes that you are undertaking to understand

  • Which side of the fence you wish to be & which way you wish to evaluate things?
  • What you are trying to achieve & what factors are your true callings?
  • How you wish to feel & how do you desire to be remembered?
